The prize giving ceremony for producers of Umbria’s top wines was held in Assisi on 13 December. Among the outstanding names whose wines found a place as territorial excellences in the prestigious in La Repubblica’s Guide to the flavours and pleasures of the region is Terre de la Custodia, with its Montefalco Sagrantino Exubera DOCG 2006.
The official parchments were handed over in the rooms of the Locanda del Cardinale, a “museum” situated over a Roman dwelling dated 75 BC. in which marbles and mosaics with millennia of history behind them, mediaeval architecture and original 16th century frescoes may be admired.
Refined for 12 months in barriques and at least six years in the bottle, our Montefalco Sagrantino Exubera DOCG 2006 is garnet red with orange tints; it’s rich in heady aromas like blackberry preserve, prunes and sweet spices, with balsamic notes, black truffle and toasted bread, and smoothly round in the mouth, with a long and persistent end. It convinced the jury, who gave it a 5-star accolade as one of the top wines out of our beloved land of Umbria.
